We’re on Our Way

Songs of Liberation

As performed on the music CD by that name by David J. Nunson (also known as Joseph J. Adamson, the artist’s pen name). Nunson is a modern way of saying Son of Nun. In scriptures, Nun was the minister to Moses and the father of Joshua. In Hebrew, Nun is the 13th letter of the alphabet, symbolized by the fish. It also means fish in Aramaic, Phoenician and Arabic. And, in mythology, Nun is the ethereal waters or ocean from which all life has come.

"And, lo, you are unto them as a very lovely song of one that has a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear your words, but they do them not. And when this comes to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet has been among them." (Ezekiel 33:32-33)

"Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, you that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof." (Isaiah 42:10)

FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND

How many people can see my way? How many races have I run? How many years have I been dying to say: Now we can do what must be done.

Once there were sailors, alone on the sea, Helping themselves to the wind. Now they're walkin' decks on Main and Wall Streets, Layin' bets on what they might win.

What's goin' on, in your mind? Do you need to take a hard line? Do you plan your time, just to get ahead and find a gold mine? Are we here because our soul never runs out of time?

But here are the children of TV and space, Pictures of Mommy's & Daddy's desire. Joining the packs in a mad human race, Hoping for a hero, not another liar.

See the fool on the mountain, who's not afraid to fall. He sees beyond what man has planned. Just make up your mind when you hear the call, And don't follow footprints in the sand.

What's goin' on in your mind? Do you need to take a hard line? Do you plan your time, just to get ahead and find a gold mine? Are we here because our soul never runs out of time?

 FLASH IN THE PAN

I was down by the river, lookin’ for a heart of gold. A flock was bein' baptized, and the preacher, he was getting old. The banks there were trampled, and the water was brown, And over by the bridge were the ruins of a town.

I was out on the street, but few looked me in the eyes. I had burned some bridges, 'stead of dealing with some lies. Some blessed ones took me in, who give all they can. Like a moth loves the light, we love a flash in the pan.

Well I heard echoes of time, on every stair. How many songs are there sung to the air? How many bets are laid to a dealer's pat hand? Isn't all that glitters just a flash in the pan?

I was deep in the wilderness, alone with the trees. And all day long I went sailing on the breeze. But two steps behind me was the ghost of a woman, And the thrill of my life, was just a flash in the pan.

So I went out on the desert, to go through my mind, Just to search my soul, to see what I could find. Still over my left shoulder, the ghost of a woman, And the thrill of my life, still a flash in the pan.

Well I heard echoes of time, on every stair. How many songs are there sung to the air? How many bets are laid to a dealer's pat hand? Isn't all that glitters just a flash in the pan?

Now I love a woman called *Wisdom; she's just what I need. She showed me how I should sow the seed. So I just sing my songs, and I'm a one man band. I know what really glitters can be right here at hand.

I still hear echoes of time, but I don't climb stairs. I hope my songs are not sung to the air. I don't lay any bets to a dealer's pat hand. The thrill of a life can be right here at hand.

* "Wisdom has built Her house and she calls to all: Come, eat my food and drink my wine and you will live abundant life and walk in the ways of understanding. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and not on your own understanding. Be not wise in your own eyes. Happy is the man that finds Wisdom. For She is more precious than rubies: and all the things you can desire are not to be compared unto her. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a Tree of Life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retains her." (From the Proverbs of Solomon)

 POLAR CONNECTION

Once upon a time, I really wanted to say, Hey, listen my friends, I have found The Way. But then I came to find out, ultimately, Each and every one of us, we all have our own key.

I was never in a place I was not meant to be, There are two sides to life, I just had to see. But if you don't believe me, just look at your past. If there were one without sin, the first stone could be cast.

But it can take two currents to make electric light, And when the two flow together there is no fight. But the two strong forces in this universe, Are in opposition when the poles are in reverse.

And for the wisdom colored gray we mix black and white, And there are shades of gray between wrong and right. And no matter what we do we'll never please them all, So I try to harm no one at all, and try not to fall.

* Chorus: Yes, it takes two to make a union, Like the yin and yang, and the man and woman. There is no positive without the negative, But when our eye is single we can truly live.

See, I think good and evil are created in our own mind, Just like the notion that we're not one of a kind. So I just I follow my heart, and cast away my doubt, And all in good time I may find out what it's all about.

But some people fear a devil, say you'd better beware. They say at every turn that devil's left a snare. But I don't listen to the ones who bend our ear, Because the biggest snares are bigotry and hate, greed and fear.

I think evil's biggest playground is our ignorance, And the Tree of Life* is our best defense. Of course we all know the world is loaded with sin. But we reap what we've sown, and that's the mess we're in.

But it will be alright when we plainly see. And the future will get brighter as we learn to be. So close your ears to the preachers of doom, There's a new day comin', and we'll all see it soon.

(* Chorus)

 * NOTE: The Tree of Life is referred to in the books of Moses, David and Solomon. And, in John’s Book of Revelation, it is described as "baring twelve manner of fruits, and yields her fruit every month, and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations." (Revelation 22:2) It is not a literal tree but a symbol for Wisdom, and it is also depicted in the Kabbalistic/Qabalistic diagram called The Tree of Life. The twelve "fruits" refer to the twelve signs of the Zodiac, and the leaves refer to the 32 healing paths of Wisdom in the diagram.

THE NAME GAME

Some people tell you they have found the way, But I learned all about what they have to say. And even though I know when I should just shut my mouth, I gotta say that crusade they're on is only goin' south.

I think that after all is said and done, We will be one for all, and all for one. To just one truth do many faiths plead. To just one way do many paths lead.

But lots of people say that they know God's name, But to me they all just speak of the same, Of the Great Spirit-Parent who loves us all. Why fight over a name? Why don't we tear down that wall?

Now if you are one of those who are seeking to find, The way to true love, and to ease your mind, You can find your own path and you are free to choose, They can lead to the same place, you've got nothin' to lose.

Seek and you shall find, you have your own way, And for that way, you will not have to pay. If on the way you buy the words that others have learned, You'll pay for all that midnight oil that you burned.

Yes, lots of people say they know God's name, But to me they all just speak of the same, Of the Great Spirit-Parent who loves us all. Why fight over a name? We don't we tear down that wall?

PREACHERS OF DOOM

This is for all those right-wing preachers, Thumpin' their bible and raising their palms. They can do better work, instead of lurk, While they pass that plate around for alms.

And his is for all those right-wing preachers, Selling their flocks a second-hand way. We should not hide from our inner guide, Who shows us all in its own way.

All the wise ones say, each in their own way, each in their own day, we are One.

So this is for all those right-wing preachers, Talkin' of judgment and doom. Read between the lines of that book, and start to look, Within your own soul real soon.

And this is for all those right-wing preachers, Who think one book tells the only way. But it was written by men, who were only next of kin, To the only One who knows just what to say.

One day we all will see, just what's going to be, When we all agree, God is One. We are One, ‘cause God is One.

"Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise. For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth." (David's Psalm 33:3-4)

Commentary: The most valuable thing we should seek and find is within. It is not in this world, nor will it be. After all, even the great propet Jesus said that the Spirit of truth dwells with you and is within you. He said that he had to go away and the world will see him no more, but the Spirit of truth will guide you unto the truth, and the son of man, an authoritative messenger for the Spirit of truth, shall issue judgment and show you things to come, after first being rejected by his generation. (See John 14:17-20, John 16:7-15, Luke 17:24-25, and read the page on Prophecies Re: The One to Come.)

Proud, spiritually blind, aggressive, militant, right-wing "Preachers of Doom" spread the myth of a "second coming" of Jesus, and use the threat of hell and damnation and the promise of reward in heaven to recruit and influence their blind flocks. But, the Spirit of truth reminds you of the truth: Blessed are the humble and meek, for they shall inherit the earth, and blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God. (And for a fuller explanation about how and why militant right-wing preachers are wrong, read the pages on Christians Divided, The Future, The Martyrdom of Jesus, The Virgin Birth Story, The Highest State of Consciousness, etc.)

RIGHT HERE AT HAND

Some say the end is drawing near. They do not see the change in the air. They don’t see the truth in the things they fear. They’re too busy climbing the stairs.

What do you believe? Does it serve us well? Or do you think you are part of a chosen few? You can change your mind, you can start to dwell, On a heaven including us all, not just some few.

Because heaven is not some far away place. It's right here now and at hand. Even though it's also beyond our time and space, With a single eye we can see it's here at hand.

Our imagination can sow a seed. What are you planting in your mind? Do you see the world in the light you need? Do you know we’re all one, and one of a kind?

We can look to the future as we want it to be, Not how we’re afraid it will go. If we all imagine heaven on earth, you see, That can be the way this world will go.

Because heaven is not some far away place. It's right here now and at hand. Even though it's also beyond our time and space, With a single eye we can see it's here at hand.

A PLACE IN THE SUN

The feeling in my heart, it shows me the way, To be free to do all I can do. So I'll follow the way of my heart today, And know that the dream will come true.

I can make one of my two minds. I can cast out doubt and dwell on faith. Leave that critic and that accuser behind. Follow the way of a child at play.

So I don't stay in a self-made prison. I take courage and dare to make a change (if only in my mind).  We can all find our own place in the sun, Even if it's not home, home on the range.

Sometimes I find my way by no choice of my own. Some things turn out right that I once thought wrong. And the bonds of desire for approval were blown, By the truth that I found in this song.

My accusers have said I have failed them. They have said I have feet of clay. But I could not live my life to please only them. I have my own dues to pay.

No I don't stay in a self-made prison. I take courage and dare to make a change (if only in my mind). We can all find our own place in the sun, Even if it's not home, home on the range.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

A Song for the Homeless

Take a good look where you're going, my friend. If you think you are alone, well then think again. There's a light brightly shining in the road ahead. We can change our world, you're not better off dead.

We come in many colors, we come short and tall. Some worry, some pray, and some have a ball. But inside us there's a place to recall, We're the leaves from one tree, each one and all.

As they do unto our brethren, so they do unto me. We are not each on separate, you see. There is one body, and it's known as humankind. And we are one in Spirit, all the time.

So if you find yourself thinking that you are alone. If you keep to yourself and you are unknown. You can be who you were meant to be. Just listen to your soul, and turn the right key.

But we must give love, before love comes back. And we cannot give to others what we lack. So take some time to find your inner self, Then you won't keep your soul waiting on a shelf.

As they do unto our brethren, so they do unto me. We are not each on separate, you see. There is one body, and it's known as human-kind. And we are one in the Spirit, all the time.

HOUSE OF EARTH

A Song for the Homeless

Deep in the forest, I'd build me a house of wood. In the valley, I'd make one of clay. By the river, I'd build me a house of stone, yes I would. The trouble is, I’ve got nothin’ to pay.

But who owns this land, can you please tell me? Who did white pioneers pay? It's wrong to take a gun, and take what you please, But isn't that what they did in their day?

Now you can't build a house that's not up to code. It must have all those facilities. And you must pay those prices, even though they explode, And use up more resources and energy.

Well, why can't we build a house on our terms, And use the materials at hand? With the light and the heat from the fire that we burn, And repay by nourishing the land.

Yes, deep in the forest, I'd build me a house of wood. In the valley, I'd make one of clay. By the river, I'd build me a house of stone, yes I would. And can you tell me, who should I pay?

Why can't we free some land from under the spell, Of almighty profit and greed? Give some new pioneers a place to dwell, And let ‘em repay by planting some seeds.

NOTE: This song, House of Earth, is not a statement against private property, but against greed and unfairness. Moreover, it’s a plea to establish a new Homestead Act and assistance for those with a pioneer spirit but with little or no financial means.

WE’RE ON OUR WAY

Yes we're on our way, as it's written in the books, But I have to say, that's not the way it looks. So be careful what you pay, shun the bait on those hooks. And on one fine day, you'll taste what I cooks.

Chorus: 'cause I'm bein' what I am, and it's only me. But I see our ship is comin' in, from the sea. And I'll just sing my songs, and show you the key. And we'll be sailing free, just wait and see.

See, I'm satisfied, with the way I look, Kinda like Kentucky Fried, the recipe is in a book. But my time I must bide, 'though I swallowed the hook, And you can tan my hide, if I'm not a good cook. (Chorus:)

Once I went up in smoke, to the mountain top within, And I took one more toke, tried to see the Light again. And now I go for broke, and try to have a thick skin, Kinda like an artichoke, with the heart deep within. (Chorus:)

Well this love I feel, it will never die. And am I a heel, if my words make you cry? On an even keel, the wind will make us fly. This is the real deal, not no pie in the sky. (Chorus:)

Clarification:

"We’re on our way" because the tide has finally turned in favor of good, humble, conscientious, generous, peaceful people, and power is slipping away from greedy, corrupt, self-important, self-righteous, proud, bigoted, militant people. And we will be "sailing free" as soon as enough people get the message from the Spirit of truth, and do what needs to be done. "Just wait and see."

As for the reference to smoke, these are relevant prophecies:

"You shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goes with a pipe to come into the mountain of the Lord, to the mighty One." (Isaiah 30:29)

"I will raise up for them a Plant of Renown, and they shall no more be consumed with hunger [for truth] in the land, neither bear the shame of the heathen any more. Thus shall they know that I the Lord their God am with them, and that they are my people." (Ezekiel 34:29-30)

"And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power." (Revelation 15:8)

And by the way, Joseph/David does not smoke because of misguided prohibition laws in the U.S. After all, about one Marijuana smoker is arrested every 45 seconds in America, even though the laws against it are based on falsehoods and half-truths. That’s why he has written a chapter about the Plant of Renown in his second book, and on the page on this web site at: http://reformationcomingsoon.bravehost.com/PlantofRenown.html

"Don't let it bring you down. It's only castles burning. Find someone who's turning, and you will come around." -- Neil Young

"There's battle lines being drawn. Nobody's right if everybody's wrong. Young people speaking their minds, Getting so much resistance from behind. I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound? Everybody look what's goin' down." -- Stephen Stills

"The truth you might be runnin' from is so small. Yet it's as big as the promise -- the promise of a comin' day." -- Stephen Stills
